Bapes: A Tribute to the Planet of the Apes Movies
If you watch classic TV you will probably have seen at least one of the Planet of the Apes movies. You know the role that Charleton Heston played and who can forget the first time they saw the movie and discovered that the Planet that everyone was on was Earth; in 1968 these were pretty scary movies.
Enter Nigo in 1993 the maker of Bapes which started out as a T-shirt brand. Nigo started his brand in a storefront he called BUSY WORKSHOP in Japan and became one of the first Japanese street wear brands. How does this work with the Planet of the Apes? Bape's themes and logo, were derived from the original movies. The brands name comes from a common Japanese saying, "bathing in lukewarm water" which according to their website describes the exciting lifestyle of Japanese youth today.
Nigo is a talented and an entrepreneur that shows that making money can be done at an early age. He is a multimillionaire entrepreneur with over 25 stores and he continues to expand. All of his fashion pieces are limited editions.
Bape's main forte is on clothing and includes polos, shirts, sweatshirts, jackets, parkas, denim and Bape Stas, which is a shoe that resembles the Nike Air Force One.
Bape doesn’t stop at clothing though because Nigo is always thinking and very interested in giving his fans what they want. Currently you can find MySpace layouts, backgrounds and graphics that he has created and soon you will be able to purchase his records.
Remember that Bape is about comfort. Each piece of clothing is designed to make the wearer feel cozy and comforted. As an example, the hoodies are warm and made of materials that hug you. They are made in a camouflage style and are available in many colors including red, blue, green and grey. Note that these are the primary colors but usually there are different colors mixed together. You will see a lot of rap stars wearing Bape hoodies.
Bape T-shirts are designed with a picture of a character from the Planet of the Apes movies and the BP logo. You can accessorize with a Bapes belt that is made with a basic color with the Bape word in bling to offset the basic color.
Be careful though because there are fake Bapes out in the world. You can spot them because they are cheaper, produced in sizes that Bape doesn't do (3XL, 4XL). Other than this, you'll have a great time wearing Bape street wear.
Bap Stas are a unique addition to the Bape clothing line and they are very attractive. They come in a variety of colors including green, orange, blue and yellow.
